The Zimbabwean Laborer
She labors during the day
And he labors during the night
Madam they call her
Mahobo they address him
A teacher and a security guard
A couple surrounded by infatuation
Nurturing their offspring with love
And all part of a certain kind
The Zimbabwean labor
He works and receives not his wages
If he does, they are close to non
What a mockery in a country full of diamonds
What a shame in a land filled with scarlet
Such are the pains and heartbreaks
Sorrows of living under a corrupt government
Others flee but they always cry
It’s not so well in other lands
Three months and no wages
These are the tales of those who cry
Tormented in their own land
And persecuted in a foreigner’s crawl
Such are the tales of the Zimbabwean laborer
I see a man; he has worked all his life
The sun would rise with tears in his eyes
It would set with sweat in his arms
He was always on his grind
Trying his best to provide
Nature his and his brother’s offspring
His daughters and his sons` offspring
One day he died, the angel took his life
His ghost comes in the morning
At dawn it awakens his wife
“Go ask for my wages” it says
“They call it pension so you should know
It should be plenty as snow”
His wife rises and sets sail
“Knock knock, its Solomon`s wife
His wages are my desire”
They open the door and greet her
In pain, they show her the wages
Lo, they have melted like snow
They have been consumed by inflation
And so his labor was in vain,
Robert Mugabe, many souls wait for thee
I hope you have your bodyguards when you die
