Conscience Without Deed Does Us No Good - Passage from the book “Tales Of A Troubled African Nation”

Conscience Without Deed Does Us No Good

Whilst we were growing up we had others that associated with bullies but where never bullies themselves nor were they seen as ones. Most of the times, they associated with the bully so the bully wouldn’t bull them. But I come to think of it, servants eat the crumbs from their master`s table. And now I remember, whatever the bully took from other kids, the so called associates had a share of it or some form of invisible hand in this unfair practice. They too had a lot in stolen goods. So a thought comes to my mind; if those kids had joined the other kids to fight the bully, the bully would have been overcome. This thought hence makes me question their innocence and integrity. This whole memory and fact in almost everyone’s childhood, is nothing short of the situation in Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe, we have many business men or other associates who do not murder or beat people but have close ties with ZANU PF, they benefit from deals with ZANU PF members. Some of them are actually top figures in ZANU PF itself. They must all choose a side; this is our word to them in this season. In a revolution, all such people must choose a side for when the revolution begins; they will share the same fate with the enemy of the people. Some of them have a good conscience but unfortunately that does not stop the violence and the murderous crimes being committed against the people. “If you are for the people you are for the people. You have tried changing things from within and it has failed, now is the time to change them from outside. No good man eats the widow`s bread, even if he is not the one who took it”.
